How to Compare CBSE Schools in Ludhiana

To compare CBSE schools in Ludhiana, check five things in this order: that the school's CBSE affiliation is genuine, its board results, class size and teacher ratio, safety and transport, and a clear, written fee break-up. Then visit, with your child, before you pay anything beyond a registration fee. This checklist works for any school, and we use The Shri Ram Universal School, Sarabha Nagar as a worked example so you can see what good answers look like.

Ludhiana has many CBSE schools, and in admission season every one of them is busy. Brochures start to sound alike. A simple, written checklist helps you compare like with like and ask the same questions everywhere.

1. Confirm the CBSE affiliation

Every CBSE-affiliated school has an affiliation number. Ask for it, then search for it yourself on CBSE's official affiliation portal, saras.cbse.gov.in, or the older cbseaff.nic.in site. Check that the school name and address match and note which classes it is affiliated up to. CBSE also asks schools to publish a public disclosure on their website, so look for that page too.

Worked example: The Shri Ram Universal School, Sarabha Nagar has CBSE affiliation no. 1631479 and runs from Nursery to Grade X, with Pre-Nursery opening from 2027-28. Our public disclosure page is on our website.

2. Look at board results, and ask how they were achieved

Ask for the latest Grade X result: the pass percentage and the top score. Then ask the more useful question: how does the school support children who find a subject hard, and stretch those who are ahead?

Worked example: In 2025-26, our first Grade X batch achieved a 100% pass result in the CBSE board exams, with a top score of 96.8%. Children who need help get remedial support and one-to-one guidance, and those who are ahead get enrichment work and Olympiad mentoring.

3. Ask about class size and teacher ratio, and be precise

Two numbers matter: how many children sit in one class, and how many adults work with them. A school-wide ratio is not the same as the number of children in your child's room, so ask for both.

Worked example: At Shri Ram Sarabha Nagar, classes are generally 20 to 30 children. Each wing as a whole works at a 1:10 teacher-student ratio. In Nursery and KG, each section of 15 to 20 children has 2 teachers and a didi, a helper who stays with the class all day.

4. Check safety on campus and on the bus

Ask direct questions. Is there CCTV, and is it monitored? Are all staff background-checked, including drivers, helpers and housekeeping? Is there a nurse on campus? What happens if your child feels unwell? Who is on the bus, and who is your child handed to at the stop?

Worked example: Our campus has 24/7 CCTV and round-the-clock security, every staff member goes through a verified background check, and a full-time nurse runs the infirmary. The nurse calls you for permission before giving any medicine. Our AC buses have GPS and CCTV, and each travels with a female attendant.

5. Work out the daily commute

A school that suits you on paper but needs an hour's ride each way will wear a young child down. Ask which areas the buses cover, how long the ride is from your colony and what time the pick-up would be.

Worked example: Our AC buses cover Ludhiana city, including Dugri, Model Town, BRS Nagar and Pakhowal Road. There are no routes yet to towns such as Mullanpur Dakha, Sahnewal or Baddowal, though we add a route once children from a new area join. Our schools near you page lists the areas we reach.

6. See what happens beyond textbooks

Ask which activities happen inside school hours, which cost extra, and from which grade each one starts. Ask to see the labs, not just photos of them.

Worked example: At Shri Ram Sarabha Nagar, sports and clubs run inside school hours and are included in the fee. The STEM Lab, powered by Myra Academy, is a regular weekly timetabled period from Grade 2 with no extra charge. German is taught from Grade 2, and there is an all-weather swimming pool.

7. Ask for the fee break-up in writing

Fee transparency is one of the best signs of a well-run school. Ask for every component: one-time charges, recurring fees, transport and anything optional. Ask what is refundable and what is adjusted against later fees.

Worked example: Our registration fee is a one-time Rs 1,000, separate from school fees and not adjusted against them. For everything else, contact admissions for the fee structure, and we will go through the full break-up with you in person, including transport.

8. Understand the admission process

Ask about age criteria, documents, whether there is a test, and when you will hear back. Note which classes still have seats.

Worked example: For 2027-28 we admit children from Pre-Nursery to Grade IX, subject to seats, and there is no direct admission into Grade X. There is no admission test. Younger children have an informal chat with an educator, and from Grade II children complete a short worksheet. LKG for 2027-28 is full, and there are a few seats left in most other grades. The steps are on our admission process page.

9. Visit, and watch the adults

A visit tells you what no website can. Watch how teachers speak to children, how calm the corridors feel and whether quiet children get a turn. Take your child if you can, and notice how they react.

Worked example: Visits run Monday to Saturday. On Saturdays we hold free sessions: storytelling for Early Years families, and hands-on STEM and Digital Literacy sessions for Grade 1 onwards.

Rankings can be one input too. The Shri Ram Universal School, Sarabha Nagar was named Best Emerging School in the CFore School Rankings for 2025 and 2026, #1 in Ludhiana, #1 in Punjab and #10 in India. We also hear from parents directly: in our PTM feedback, parents rate us 4.9 out of 5. Still, the right school is the one where your child is known and happy, so use the checklist first.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check if a school in Ludhiana is really CBSE affiliated?

Ask the school for its affiliation number and search for it on CBSE's affiliation portal, saras.cbse.gov.in (or the older cbseaff.nic.in). Check that the name, address and classes match. Our affiliation number is 1631479.

Which CBSE schools in Ludhiana are accepting admissions for 2027-28?

Many schools open admissions in the autumn, so call the ones on your list to check seats. At The Shri Ram Universal School, Sarabha Nagar, admissions for 2027-28 are open from Pre-Nursery to Grade IX, subject to seats, with a few seats left in most grades. LKG is full.

What should I ask about the fee structure?

Ask for every component in writing: one-time charges, annual and monthly fees, transport, and anything optional. At our school the registration fee is Rs 1,000, one time and not adjusted against fees. Contact admissions for the fee structure.

Is a 1:10 teacher ratio the same as 10 children in a class?

No. A wing-wide ratio counts all the teachers across a wing. At our school, classes are generally 20 to 30 children, and each wing as a whole works at 1:10.

How many schools should I visit before deciding?

Two or three is usually enough to see the differences clearly. Use the same checklist at each one, and take your child along.
