How old for Nursery in Ludhiana? The 2027–28 age guide from TSUS Sarabha Nagar

"She was born in January. Is she old enough for Nursery next year?" We hear some version of this every admission season. It is worth settling early, because at this age a few months make a real difference.

This guide answers a question many Ludhiana parents search for: how old should a child be for Nursery? The class-by-class ages below are for The Shri Ram Universal School, Sarabha Nagar, for the 2027–28 session. Other schools may count a little differently, so always read each school's own notice.

The quick answer

At The Shri Ram Universal School, Sarabha Nagar, age is counted as on 31 March 2027 for the 2027–28 session.

Class Age as on 31 March 2027

LKG 4 years
UKG 5 years

Pre-Nursery is new at TSUS Sarabha Nagar from 2027–28, and admissions for it are already underway. Nursery seats are open but filling. LKG admissions for 2027–28 are closed, as all seats are full. For UKG and Grade 1, please call admissions to check.

How to work out your child's age on 31 March 2027

Take a calendar and count your child's age in years and months on 31 March 2027, not on the day you apply. Many parents count from today's date, and that can put a child a class too high or too low. Write the answer down as years and months. It is the figure every school will ask for.

The document that proves your child's age is the birth certificate. Before you apply anywhere, check that the date on it is correct.

Why schools use one date

A single date keeps things fair. Children in a class end up within about a year of each other, and that matters in the early years. A few months can be the difference between a child who is ready to sit for a story and one who still needs to wander.

Children in a class are close in age, so they can sit, listen and play together.

Cut-offs can differ between schools

Many schools count age on 31 March, but not all use the same ages for each class. If you are applying to more than one school, note each rule in a small tracker. Our Nursery admission checklist has a simple one you can copy.

If your child's birthday is close to the cut-off

This is where a table stops being enough. At TSUS Sarabha Nagar we follow the cut-off date, and we cannot promise an exception. But every family's situation is a little different, so please call admissions and talk it through with us before you decide anything.

It also helps to ask yourself a few plain questions about your child:

  • Can your child spend a couple of hours away from you without being very upset?
  • Can they follow a simple instruction, like "put your bag on the hook"?
  • Do they show interest in other children, even if they don't play with them yet?

None of these is a test. They are simply useful things to talk over with the school.

What to expect at TSUS Sarabha Nagar

No test. There is no test for a three-year-old. You and your child meet an educator for an informal conversation, mostly so we can get to know your child.

Settling in. New children come for 1 to 1.5 hours a day at first, and move to the full day once they have settled, usually within 15 to 20 days.

Class size. Each Nursery and KG section has 15 to 20 children, with 2 teachers and a didi, a helper who looks after washroom trips and anything else a child needs. It is a nurturing, holistic start, and there are enough adults in the room for every child to be noticed.

The campus. The school sits on a green 3-acre campus, so children have space to play outdoors as well as learn indoors. The Early Years page shows what a day looks like.

One admission only. Once your child joins, they move up each year. UKG children go into Grade 1 automatically, and from Grade 1 they start working in our labs, where 21st century skills such as robotics and digital literacy are learnt by doing.

Documents and registration fee

Keep these ready when you apply:

  • Your child's birth certificate
  • Aadhaar card of the child
  • Photo ID of both parents
  • Proof of residence
  • 6 passport-size photographs of the child
  • Immunisation record, where applicable

The full steps are on our Admission Process page. The registration fee is Rs 1,000. It is separate and is not adjusted against school fees. Contact admissions for the fee structure.
