Pre-Nursery is the first year of school for children of about 2 to 2.5 years. At The Shri Ram Universal School, Sarabha Nagar, Pre-Nursery opens for the first time in 2027-28, with short settling-in days, the same familiar teachers and didi every morning, and a gentle, play-led routine with no exams. Admissions are open now, and Pre-Nursery seats are filling.
Many parents of two-year-olds tell us the same thing: they are not sure their child is ready, and they are not sure they are ready either. Both feelings are normal. This post explains what Pre-Nursery is, what a morning looks like for a child this young, and how to decide whether it is the right time for your family.
At our school, age is counted as on 31 March of the year of admission. For Pre-Nursery, your child should be about 2 to 2.5 years old on 31 March 2027. Nursery is for children of about 3.
| Class for 2027-28 | Age on 31 March 2027 |
|---|---|
| Pre-Nursery | About 2 to 2.5 years |
| Nursery | 3 years |
| LKG | 4 years (full for 2027-28) |
| UKG | 5 years |
If your child's birthday falls close to the line, do not guess from the table. Call admissions and we will tell you honestly which class is the right fit. Our 2027-28 age guide has more detail.
At two, a child is not ready for worksheets, and should not be asked to be. What they need is simpler and more important:
A good Pre-Nursery is built around these, not around how many letters a child can recite.
Some children walk in on day one and never look back. Others hold on to your hand for a week. Both are fine, and we plan for both.
At Shri Ram Sarabha Nagar, new children start with 1 to 1.5 hours a day. Once they have settled, usually within 15 to 20 days, they move to the full Pre-Primary day. The class teacher keeps you posted through the first days, and after the first month every new family sits down with our admissions team, the academic coordinator and the vice principal to talk about how it is going.

Our Pre-Primary wing covers Pre-Nursery, Nursery, LKG and UKG, and the day follows a gentle rhythm, pitched to the age of the children in the room.
In summer, Pre-Primary runs from 7:50 am to 12:40 pm. In winter, school starts at 8:50 am and children go home an hour later than in summer.
Every Pre-Primary section has a didi alongside the class teacher. The didi is not a teacher. She is a helper who stays with the class all day, takes children to the washroom, cleans them up when needed and soon knows which child needs a hug at the door. Every staff member, including didis and housekeeping, goes through a background check and regular safety training.
A full-time nurse runs our infirmary. She will not give your child any medicine without calling you first, and in an emergency you are told straight away. The campus has 24/7 CCTV and is guarded round the clock.
A two-year-old cannot give you a report at pick-up. So we do it instead, through ShriConnect, our parent portal, a WhatsApp group for your child's grade and the school diary. There are regular Parent-Teacher Meetings, and you can ask to meet the teacher whenever something worries you.
There is no single right answer. Pre-Nursery tends to suit a child who:
Waiting a year for Nursery is also a fine choice. Either way, your child does not need any earlier schooling to join us, and you do not need to teach the alphabet first. Tell us the small things instead: what calms your child, what word they use for the toilet, whether they still nap. It makes the first morning a little less strange for a very small person.
One practical point: children who start in our Early Years move up to Grade 1 automatically, with no fresh admission, so a Pre-Nursery place also settles the question of where your child goes next.

The steps are the same as for other classes: fill in the parent information form, meet our admissions team and tour the campus, buy the admission docket for Rs 1,000 (a one-time registration fee, not adjusted against school fees) and have an informal chat with an educator. For a two-year-old, that chat is a friendly conversation, not a test. You then submit the application form with documents. A Pre-Nursery child does not need a transfer certificate. The full list is on our admission process page. Contact admissions for the fee structure.
At The Shri Ram Universal School, Sarabha Nagar, Pre-Nursery is for children of about 2 to 2.5 years on 31 March of the year of admission. Other schools may use different cut-offs, so check with each.
Not if the day is short, gentle and built for two-year-olds. Our new children start with 1 to 1.5 hours a day and the same adults greet them every morning.
Please tell us where your child is with toilet training when you visit. The didi in every Pre-Primary section takes children to the washroom and cleans them up when needed, and we will talk through what your child needs.
No. There are no formal exams from Pre-Nursery to UKG. Teachers observe how each child is learning and growing, and share it with you.
Yes, but they are filling, so please call soon. LKG for 2027-28 is already full.
