Art and Visual Art at The Shri Ram Universal School, Sarabha Nagar
The Shri Ram Universal School, Sarabha Nagar, Ludhiana, gives every child regular time for art, music, dance and theatre. Art, dance and music are clubs from Grade 1, DEED classes (Debating, Elocution, Extempore, Dance/Drama) run through the year, and children perform at Form Mornings, Form Evenings and Founders' Day.
Why the arts belong in a holistic education
When a child mixes colours, learns a song or rehearses a short play, they are practising focus, patience and self-expression. The arts also give quieter children a voice. We see this as a core part of a nurturing school, and as real 21st century skills: creativity, collaboration and the confidence to present your own ideas.
Visual art
In the Early Years, children paint, draw, tear, stick and model with clay, building fine motor control and a love of colour. In the Primary Years, the art club adds drawing, painting and craft projects, often using reused and recycled material in line with our Shri Paryavaran environment programme. Older students take on larger projects and prepare work for school events.
Music
Music is a club from Grade 1. Children learn a range of instruments and receive vocal training, and the school has an in-house recording studio. The school calendar includes bands and folk songs at events.
Dance and theatre
Dance is a club from Grade 1. Through DEED classes, children also take part in drama, ad-acting, nukkad nataks and plays. Children learn both Indian and Western dance styles. Performing in front of classmates and parents teaches teamwork, timing and stage confidence.
Where children perform
Students showcase their talents at inter-house, intra-school and inter-school events, and in our Form Mornings, Form Evenings and Founders' Day programmes.
