Nursery Age in Ludhiana for 2027-28: Which Class Fits Your Child?

For the 2027-28 session at The Shri Ram Universal School, Sarabha Nagar, a child's age is counted as on 31 March 2027. Nursery is for children who are 3 on that date, Pre-Nursery (new in 2027-28) is for children of about 2 to 2.5, LKG is for 4, UKG for 5 and Grade 1 for 6. So a child who is 3 years and 8 months on 31 March 2027 fits Nursery, not LKG. LKG for 2027-28 is already full, and there are a few seats left in most grades.

Every admission season, parents bring us the same small piece of paper: a birth date, with a question mark next to it. This post is written to answer that question quickly. Find your child's date of birth in the table below, see which class it points to, and then read the short section on what to do if your child sits close to a line.

Which class for 2027-28? Find your child's date of birth

The table works backwards from the 31 March 2027 date, so you can read it straight from the birth certificate.

If your child was born between about April and September 2024, they will be between 2.5 and 3 on 31 March 2027. Please call us, and we will talk through whether Pre-Nursery or waiting for Nursery suits your child better.

Three worked examples

"My son will be 3 years and 8 months. Nursery or KG?"

Count his age on 31 March 2027, not today. If he is 3 years and 8 months on that date, he was born in July 2023, and the table puts him in Nursery for 2027-28.

"My daughter was born in January 2024."

On 31 March 2027 she will be 3 years and 2 months. That is Nursery age. Some parents worry that a child near the young end of the class will struggle. In our experience, what matters far more at three is whether a child can manage a few hours away from home, which is something you can watch for over the coming months.

"My child turns 3 in May 2027."

Then your child is still 2 on 31 March 2027, so Nursery would be the following session. Pre-Nursery may be the right step for 2027-28 instead. Call us and we will go through it with you.

Why the date matters more than the month you apply

The most common mistake we see is counting a child's age from the day the form is filled in. In November, a child born in December 2023 is still 2. By 31 March 2027 the same child is 3 years and 3 months, and well within Nursery age. If you count from today, you may think your child is a year behind when they are not.

Write your child's age down in years and months as on 31 March 2027, and keep the birth certificate handy. Before you apply anywhere, check that the date on it is correct, because every school will go by that document.

Is my child ready for Nursery? Age is only half the answer

Age tells you which class a child is eligible for. Readiness tells you how the first weeks will feel. None of the points below is a test, and no three-year-old ticks every box. They are simply useful things to notice at home.

Time apart: can your child spend a morning with a grandparent or a familiar adult without being very upset?
Simple instructions: can they follow "put your shoes by the door" or "bring me the red cup"?
Other children: do they watch other children with interest, even if they do not join in yet?
Telling you what they need: can they let an adult know, in words or gestures, that they are hungry, thirsty or need the toilet?
Sitting for a story: can they listen to a short picture book, even for a few minutes?

Choosing a Nursery for 2027-28 in Ludhiana

Once you know the right class, the bigger question is which school. A few things are worth checking at any Nursery you visit:

Class size and adults in the room. Ask how many children are in a class and how many adults work with them. At The Shri Ram Universal School, Sarabha Nagar, classes are generally 20 to 30 children, and across the wing there is about 1 teacher for every 10 children. That ratio is for the whole wing, not a promise of several teachers in each class, and it is worth asking any school to explain its own figure the same way.
The years ahead. A Nursery inside a CBSE school means one admission for many years. We are a CBSE school (affiliation 1631479) running from Nursery to Grade X, and from 2027-28 we also start Pre-Nursery.
